Cultural Knowledges and Digital Systems

On this page you can read about my current digital system projects sponspored by the National Science Foundation and the Federal Government's Institute for Museum and Library Services with Native American communities (the Zuni currently) and several museums. With these projects and others I am arguing for a more cultural, digital, multiple value-imbued web. To engage with this we need to think about algorithms and their values built into them, what I am calling 'algorithmic epistemics'.

My work in this area also involves thinking about algorithmic alternatives, particularly around particular topics that users may search for. For example, if a user is interested in diverse perspectives, positions toward a topic, how do we develop digital systems that can accomodate multiple viewpoints? What about multiple cultural perspectives on an issue?
