About the Podcast

Rapid developments in technology have both confused and enthralled us all. Emerging artificial intelligence technologies combined with the directions that data and the Internet have taken contribute to disinformation and polarization, widespread loneliness amongst youth, and decreased economic mobility. Succumbing to cynicism, or at least staying rooted in anxiety, often feels like the only option for so many of us wondering where both our planet and new technologies are headed.

Hosted by UCLA professor and public intellectual Ramesh Srinivasan, the Utopias podcast presents a new narrative, a vision of life futures based on a set of conversations that celebrate the work and perspectives of “dreamers”, or those who represent and care deeply for the endless potential for human creativity, expression, and compassion.

So what does it mean to be human and alive in our digitally transformed world? How can we recommit to ourselves and others while leveraging technology for our best purposes? How do we double down on our most important human values?

To address these real (yet not inevitable) developments, we have a huge opportunity to embrace our capacity for innovation, empathy, and compassion toward one another.

The Utopias podcast forwards a refreshing counter narrative to constant trauma-branding we see online and in the media through amplifying the creative voices of cutting-edge artists, Oscar-nominated filmmakers, journalists, business leaders, comedians, politicians, activists, and spiritual figures who are all committed to regenerative visions for the future.
